LIP SERVICE S/S 2012
Finally, finally, finally—LIP SERVICE has released official shots of their spring collection! The season theme is “nudy passion,” and there aren’t too many surprises with this one, ladies. What you see is what you get, with soft, feminine pieces in shades of nude, beige, and cream, a bit of black, and a touch of tasteful leopard and floral print. Fans of the brand will be happy to know that many of this season’s offerings follow the LIP SERVICE formula for sexy, adult gal style, with a couple standout pieces worth a second look. This belted and draped car coat—in what looks like suede—is really a sophisticated leap for LIP SERVICE! It contrasts nicely to the bounty of knits and lightweight fabrics also being used in this collection.
Here a delicately pleated one-piece is paired with a heavier, long duster cardigan. Relaxed and casual, it’s a perfect combination for spring.
Same idea as above, this time with big floral prints. Feels very similar to what rienda is also doing this season.
Lusciously draped in layers of ruffles, this off-the-shoulder top is great for showing a little skin without going overboard. Take a cue from these photos and pair with a dainty layered necklace.
Ah, the ever-classic trench coat. It gets a girly update here with a shorter length, flared bottom, and voluminous waist-tie.
More cardigans, this time paired with a printed body-con dress and wide waist belt. This look also reminds me a lot of rienda.
Some serious drape going on here! (I wonder if this is LIP SERVICE’s attempt at more mode-influenced design.) Take note of the brand’s the signature Pucci-esque print, done in a soft grey.
More mixing of textures here. Like the first look in the collection, it combines a heavy ribbed knit with something more lightweight, like lace. I love the peachy-pink tones here. So fresh for spring!
A little bit of bohemian chic with a pretty peasant top! Wide, flared sleeves have long been a mainstay with LIP SERVICE tops and dresses for a romantic look.
It’s all in the details with this top. The vintage necklace and delicately textured crochet mini skirt are lovely, too.
More adult florals. What makes an adult floral? Big, bold designs combined with sophisticated colors.
More loose, draped tops.
Polka dots are poised to be a big trend this spring, so LIP SERVICE had a go with these polka dot pants. Nice way to add some interest to an otherwise solid colored outfit.
More crochet, this time in mini-dress form. Simply gorgeous! Styling tip: cinch tunic tops and short dresses with a wide waist belt for a body-defining silhouette.
I like the idea of layers, though I can’t imagine this piece will be flattering on a whole lot of people. The shape just screams maternity wear!
This mint colored blouse puts the brand on trend this season, as soft, ice-cream type colors are said to be the next big thing. The look is finished off with antique lace bottoms.

Love the horse bit detailing here. Very Gucci.
Classic suede pumps get a bit of a lift with a modest platform, while retro-inspired oxfords are given a sexy boost with an added wedge.
Enamel necklaces give a bit of vintage glamour. Besides these, LIP SERVICE is also pushing cross motifs and more delicate, layered necklaces, perfect for spring and beyond.
More enamel jewelry, this time translated into earrings. Note the soft pastel shades like peach and mint used here as well.
Brown and beige belts coordinate perfectly with the overall color theme of the collection.
Beyond all this, I think it’s worth noting that LIP SERVICE has been making more obvious strides to class up their image both this season and last. They’re not the only ones, either. This past winter we saw GOLDS Infinity making a very similar transition, toning down their over-the-top sex-kitten style for something noticeably more grown-up and sophisticated. It’ll be interesting to see if this same shift continues or if brands like LIP SERVICE and GOLDS Infinity retreat back to their flashy safety net of lace and sparkles.

EMODA S/S 2012
Ah, EMODA. After a pretty solid showing this past fall, the brand continues their winning streak with this group of offerings for the coming spring. The theme is “mode exotic,” but the most “exotic” thing on the runway might very well be the models’ metallic turbans and silver hair. Much of this collection is built on what EMODA already does well, like sheer fabrics, floral prints, and monotone designs. That hardly makes this a disappointing collection, though. Overall, the end result is polished and elegant. That said, on with the show!
This tapestry-like pattern is a departure from EMODA’s usually bold floral prints.
Simple and sleek style—love it! The pearl wrap is especially eye-catching.
More tapestry patterns. I can see this mixing and matching well with the jacket above.
A truly lovely combo of moire and metallic finishes.
Leather for spring? Bring it on! I love the mash-up of soft lace with tough leather. (Something tells me EMODA opted for faux, though.)
Lots of sheer fabrics—clearly an EMODA signature.
More sheer fabrics. The combination of floral and dots brings an unexpected—but pleasant—dose of sweetness.
A belly baring top paired with flowing palazzo pants gives an ethnic feel.
Collars—either sewn on or detached like the one here—have made a recent splash in gal fashion, so it’s nice to see the trend continue here. EMODA’s embellishment of choice this season? Pearls, of course!
Take note of the makeup, ladies! Always cool cat-eyes are amped up with an intense flash of blue.
Gorgeous combination of textures here. The metallic knit immediately made me think of Roberto Cavalli’s Spring 2011 collection.
Easy look for everyday with a blazer and black body-con dress. Perfection!
And the bold florals return, softened by white under-layers, and again, sheer fabrics.
Layering worked in the above look, but here it just feels fussy. Sorry, EMODA! (The knit pieces are still fab, though.)
A very feminine look, accented by metallic finishes. Those shorts are killer.
Swingy fringe and a cool turban combine for a bit of flapper influence.
What a beautiful piece to close to show with! The white-on-white beading is super-glam but still understated.

- Rose Cheek Color, ¥3,675: The revamped product for this collection is the blush. You can see the previous design here. Truly, the blushes are very different now! While we lost the mini-brush that would come with each, we gained a mirror with this packaging. There are six variations: 100 Mystic Rose (highlight), 300 Romantic Rose, 301 Dreamy Rose, 400 Anna Rose, 500 Antique Rose and 600 Sunny Rose.
- Cheek Brush, ¥3,990: The new Anna Sui cheek brush features a rotating handle which allows you to play with the length of the bristles, for a more controled application as well as the possibility to carry it around easily in its more compact form. Only downside is that the brush is made with artificial fibers, unlike the previous cheek brush.
- Liquid Eyeliner, ¥2,625: The new liquid eyeliner features an elastic brush and flexible tip. I’d like to go deeper in my description but until I try the new things to compare it with the old, I can’t say much more than that! The product comes in three shades: 001 Black Magic, 200 Amethyst Sand and 500 Golden Brown.
- Double Lip Gloss, ¥3,150: The only limited edition product of this collection, the double lip gloss contains a rich rouge color on one end, and a sheer shimmery gloss on the other. It comes in three variations: 01 Sensual Rose, 02 Seductive Rose and 03 Prismatic Rose.
dazzlin S/S 2012
It’s barely the end of December, but Japanese brands have already started rolling out their wares for the upcoming spring season. Among them is MARK STYLER brand dazzlin. Some of you might remember the brand’s fantastic retro-Americana collection from last spring, which, by the way, I loved. This new collection brings that same sense of playfulness, along with some unexpected contrasts. Everything is really best summed up in dazzlin’s own words: ”cotton candy fantasy.”
Quirky bearskin hats bring a little drama to the runway. Who would’ve thought they could ever look this cute?
Delicate outfits are contrasted by heavy, more aggressive footwear in pale colors like white and mint…
…while sheer footless tights perfectly mirror the rest the collection.
The collection gets a hint of sportiness with a Chanel-esque—here we go, ladies—fanny pack. (Even I can’t sugar coat that.)
The sportiness continues with a girly chiffon baseball jacket and matching tennis skirt. Such a fun combination!
Sweet is in the details. I can see so many girls wearing these necklaces.
Beautiful mix of prints and textures here.
Bring on the retro cat eye frames, please!
The nipped in waist is a nice contrast to the baby-doll silhouettes shown above.
Cat purses, anyone?
Another playsuit, again done in a dainty print. The smocked chest is a bit juvenile, admittedly.
Can’t say this or the pearl-encrusted bikini bottom above are very practical swimwear choices…but hey, they’re gorgeous!
So there you have it—dreamy ice cream colors, delicate sheer fabrics, oodles of ruffles, and a little bit of Marie Antoinette mixed in for good measure.
