Anna Sui Spring II 2013 Cosmetics Collection
Limited Edition Refreshing Loose Powder, $48
In preparation for the upcoming Summer, Anna Sui will release this limited edition loose powder to help us keep our cool during the hot weather! Firstly with the powder encapsulating water to refresh your skin with a cool texture and secondly with the Lasting Powder & Sebum Absorbing Powder which combined have both oil absorbing and repelling actions. Add to that the brand’s Clear Sliding Powder and Trick Powder technologies and you get a translucent, barely-there finish that camouflages pores and unevenness.
Limited Edition Gift Box, $5
These cute tins have all the imagery we’ve come to associate with our beloved designer: roses, butterflies and fairies! They are the perfect size to store in a few cosmetics as gifts: approximately a width of 11cm x 10cm height.
Limited edition Eye Shadow Palette, $40
Featuring the same lovely imagery as the gift box, Anna Sui is also offering these two eye shadow palettes. You can either pick 01 “Gorgeously Feminine” which features grey, black, pale pink, soft orange, candy ink and gold eyeshadows, or 02 “Gorgeously Cool” which contains grey, black, lavender, pastel blue, light yellow and silver eyeshadows. Each come with 2 sponge-tip and brush applicators.
Limited edition Lip Gloss, $22
And to pair with it, as Anna Sui knows us so well, two limited edition lip gloss colours in the most adorable packaging: a soft pink (01) and a candy red (02).

Last year’s beloved stained-glass compact mirror — reminiscent of something you’d see in The Beauty & The Beast, don’t you think? — has returned for a limited time in a brand new pearly white colour.
Face Protection Cream, $32
For their new collection, Anna Sui is introducing a new product in their base makeup line: sunblock. This light oil/water base cream features a high SPF of 50+ and contains a new technology, Clear Sun Cut Powder, a UV scattering formula, combined with four other UV absorbing formulas to effectively protect the skin. Yet, all that powerful sun blocking technology has been crafted so that the finish is completely translucent and non-sticky, instead of the usual whitish and thick finish that sunblock often leaves. Additionally, the Trick Powder ingredient common to Anna Sui’s base makeup was added in, giving a bonus soft focus effect.
How to use it: Apply the Face Protection Cream after your moisturizer, but before your primer.
Limited Edition Pearl Gel Primer, $30
Another product specifically designed for Summer, Anna Sui will release as limited edition this light gel base primer consisting mostly of water with just a little amount of oil. This foundation primer features three special technologies. First, purple, blue and silver pearl beads, made of agar and water soluble particles, release a skin enhancing formula when crushed during application; this creates a thin veil over the surface of the skin to optimize the application of your foundation. Second, the familiar Trick Powder used in all Anna Sui base makeup products to camouflage pores with a soft-focus effect. Lastly, and this is what makes this primer ideal for Summer, is the Sebum Absorbing Powder to fight sweat and oil for a long-lasting finish.
Makeup Mist, ¥2,000 (not available in the US)
A favourite product of mine returns in the line, at last! It’s unfortunate though that it won’t be sold in the US, but it should be fairly easy to find online. This spray cooling lotion controls sebum and help refresh and maintain your makeup for an even longer period. You can either spray the mist right after you are done doing your makeup to prevent the oils from breaking down the fruit of your labor or during the day for a quick and efficient pick me up. I can’t wait to try the new formula!

Top 10 (in no special order) footwear as requested here.
1- John Fluevog Baby Cake boots: I own a pair of these and they are wonderful. Not only are they very sturdy, but also super stylish, comfortable, well made, non skid (a must in Quebec winter) and survived at least one winter (I wear them everyday from October/November to April).
2-John Fluevog Caravaggio shoes: I own these too, and they are true to Fluevog quality and style.
3 and 4- Anna Sui 2012 shoes (I have no idea what they are called, but they were featured in the September edition of Sweet magazine. They are also offered in black, but I like these colours.)
5- Cobb Hill Sally shoes by New Balance- As someone who walks A LOT, I need comfortable shoes, and these are exactly the way I like them: classic, super comfy with a medium heel. I also wear a similar pair of Clarks shoes, but this Cobb Hill pair is a bit more stylish and comfy.
6- Jeffrey Campbell Carmillia boots- Gorgeous, but since I do not own them, I do not know if they are comfortable.
7- Axes Femme Rose button boots (not sure of the name as they are not on the website anymore)- These are super cute and are offered in navy!
8- Axes Femme Chandelier shoes - My favourite colour is red, but it is sold out. :(
9- American Duchess Kensington shoes - I have been eyeing these for a while now, but since comfort is a real issue for me, I am still unsure.
10- Vivienne Westwood Anglomania + Melissa Lady Dragon shoes - The little feather detail and general appearance is gorgeous (and I feel really badass when I wear them), but they get so uncomfortable after a short while that I do not wear them much. :|
The Japanese Anna Sui Cosmetics website has been updated with the next “Drama Queen” collection for Spring 2013! The new products will be launched on January 4th in Japan, and for the US in the middle of February at the NYC flagship boutique. Find all the info about these new products here.
Anna Sui dips her toes in Lolita for Spring 2013
Petticoats, floral prints in cream, black, pink and blues on cupcake and A-line silhouettes; Sui definitely had a thought for her Japanese fans this season. Even more appealing are the refined choices of fabric: jacquard, crinkle chiffon, poplin and muslin.
Are you a creative Lolita longing for a breath of fresh air? Anna Sui’s Spring 2013 collection — hitting stores on February— might just be what you were waiting for.
The Peacocks
Was so delightfully surprised to find myself featured on Humans of New York outside the Lincoln Center just before the Anna Sui show. Next to me is the director of Anna Sui Mini — Anna Sui’s children’s line — Kinuko Yamamoto.
It’s always incredible to see Yamamoto-san each season at the show. Her outfits are always amazing and she exudes such a warm and glamorous energy. And completely by coincidence, we were both wearing the same print (but in different colors)!
Our occassional Anna Sui editor looked great during New York Fashion Week, as did Yamamoto-san.

One of my favourite times in the year is when kimonos make their appearance. Anna Sui’s hyper-feminine and OTT kimono’s for 2012 here are featured in Japanese magazine Sweet’s July edition, along with a feature on the new Secret Wish series’ captivating fragrance Fairy Dance!

Anna Sui Resort 2012-2013: Anna’s Garden
Anna Sui is not strictly Japanese fashion, but she has such a colossal cult following in Japan that it’s impossible to ignore her influence. Myself and Retromantique worked together to write this review of the latest resort collection, which I am honestly in love with. I hope you will be too.
Anna’s Garden. A perfect title for Anna Sui’s Resort 2012-2013 collection. Resort collections are still a relative novelty in the fashion industry, created to give fashionable jet setters something to wear while traveling to warmer climates in the winter. To me, this collection is less about traveling to exotic locations as much as it is about traveling inward, uncovering a warmness within through a journey of romance and nostalgia.
True to form, Anna has drawn from a patchwork of inspiration for this collection, weaving threads between epochs, people and places that may have otherwise never crossed. A major element of the collection’s unique flavour can be found in the rather extreme prints, which combine the delicacy and opulence of Art Nouveau with the thick lines and loud colours of 60’s Pop art.
However, there is an unmistakable sense of serenity permeating through the designs that can be attributed to the heavy influence of garden and tea parties from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Appropriately, Anna is channeling the spirit and style of Lady Diana Cooper, an influential aristocrat and actress from the latter era.
The importance of florals in this collection cannot be understated. Expanding beyond the usual infatuation with roses and peonies, hydrangeas, lily pads, peonies, petunias, daisies, poppies and even seeding dandelions all make cameos. The prints are — as always — produced in-house (including an adorable tea cup print), printed on wonderful jacquard fabrics and adorned with custom lace. Beyond the superficial, Anna has delivered some truly wonderful details that garment aficionados are sure to pine over.
As always, there are a number of artists that influence the collection’s visual flavour. Antonio Lopez’s inspiration from Spring 2012 carries forward with the use of wrapped turbans as headwear. As well, Aubrey Beardsley’s use of monochromatic patterns can be seen reflected in a handful of pieces.
It’s hard to imagine under what circumstances this couldn’t be considered as Anna’s best Resort collection to date. Generally, it’s very easy to draw a line between Resort and the “main” Spring and Fall collections, which was accentuated with Resort 2011-2012’s rather tame offering. This collection could have easily held its own on the runway, perhaps with Paul McCartney’s English Tea playing over a Sissinghurst Castle Garden-inspired backdrop.
